The Hopkins Academy Social Studies Department challenges students to look beyond dates and events and develop a deeper understanding of the people, cultures, ideas, and issues that have shaped our world. Through courses in World History and U.S. History, along with advanced and elective opportunities such as AP World History, AP U.S. History, Psychology, Mythology & Indigenous Peoples, Ethics, and Modern Conflict, students are exposed to diverse perspectives and multicultural histories.

Students strengthen critical thinking, research, writing, communication, and historical analysis while working with primary and secondary sources and examining connections between the past and present. Advanced coursework encourages students to think like historians by evaluating evidence, developing arguments, comparing historical developments, and examining change over time.

The department’s goal is to prepare students not only for future academic success, but also to become informed, thoughtful, and engaged global citizens.
