State law mandates that certain screenings must be offered in school each year.

Hearing and Vision screening:

  • All grades K-12 or during years when a waiver is filed with DPH

  • Vision: K-5, 7 & 9

  • Hearing: K-3, 7 & 9

  • All transfer students

  • Upon parent or teacher request

Annual Postural Screening:

  • Grades 5-9

Students are examined in private by the school nurse. Girls must wear a bathing suit top or a sports bra. For all screenings, parents will be notified by letter if further evaluation is recommended.

Annual Height & Weight Screening and BMI calculation:

  • All students grade K-12

Lead Screening:

  • At least one lead test prior to entering kindergarten

Tuberculosis Screening:

  • TB screening is only recommended for high risk students per physician’s discretion( students entering from Latin America, Africa, Asia (except Japan), Eastern Europe and Russia, the Middle East are considered high risk and should receive baseline Mantoux tests prior to entering Hadley Public schools.

All students are required by state law to participate in the screenings- if you would like to request that your child be exempt from screenings, a written physician’s note must be provided stating that the child does not require the screening.
