1900 Harvesting Equipment

Harvesting corn in the 1800s took a while, but it takes less time to harvest corn by the early 1900s. The flail wasn't being used as much, and wasn't going to be used at all much longer. In 1903 threshing was done with a portable steam powered machine. The grain ran into a bin by flowing through a grain spout. Grain could also have gone into bags on a wagon. As you can see, harvesting corn was hard work. By 1900, Hadley, like many other towns in the area, was using harvesting equipment that was built using more recent technology.
