In 1800 farmers used animals to pull heavy things on the farm. Oxen were used to pull plows or anything big on the farm because they were the strongest draft animals available at the time. Hadley has a lot of land, and oxen helped maintain it. The bad thing about oxen is that they didn't get work done fast. They took their time. Farmers did not know that very soon this aspect of farming would change forever.
